Guys, I can see the light at the end of my organizing tunnel! I’m to a point where there is a noticeable difference in how my apartment looks, which is wonderful and encouraging. The trick now is not to rest on my laurels or think “this is good enough.”
That’s especially important since there are pockets of clutter still lurking. It’s the last few projects that cause all my dread and inertia, but now I have weeks of experience telling me that it’s not that hard and the reward is so good. It’s amazing how it feels to walk into the room & have more open space, physically & visually. I get excited walking through my front door at night and walking into the living room in the morning. Six years into living in this apartment, it almost feels like it’s brand new to me. I’ve even had my mom over before she drove me to the airport (the perks of living in the same city), and I didn’t feel like I had to do anything to get ready for her to come over. If that isn’t progress, I don’t know what is.
What are some of my victories, you might ask? Well, after 6 years, I finally have a home for my vacuum. I’ve mentioned before my lack of hall or storage closets – I just have a clothes closet & it’s not designed to hold a vacuum – so my vacuum has just floated in my living room for years. Now, it has a home. It’s still visible, but it’s out of the way. At some point, I might upgrade to something smaller that could be tucked away completely, but that probably won’t happen until I’ve gone through all my current supply of vacuum bags.

What’s left, you might also ask? On the organizing front, I still have sections of my office zone to tackle, as well as the dining zone. I’m hoping another couple nights on the office will get me mostly there. I’ve cleared away a ton of paper, but I still need containers for what’s left. There isn’t much left to purge, but I want to quiet the visual noise of my greeting cards & stationery all piled up. The dining zone doesn’t need much purging, just some dusting and home assigning. My goal is to get the last of the sorting & purging done by this weekend, so I can tuck into the redecorating.
An update on the decor is coming tomorrow in my One Room Challenge post. I’m making some big, non-organizing changes and I’m really excited!
